Dedication

I've finished Dee Brown's Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee. A completely absorbing book that had me engrossed from the beginning. I really don't know how to begin to review it, so I'll just dedicate a post to all those American Indian warriors who fought to protect their families, their culture and the natural resources of their land.

This is Dull Knife a chief of the Northern Cheyennes.

I remember my husband reading a book about 'Wounded Knee' years ago, I will have to dig it out and read it.

Hi zetor, yes I think these accounts of the wild west would certainly appeal to men. In fact I'm going to lend this to my dad to read!

You're right, not an easy book to review. And for Americans, not an easy subject — even today. You might like some of the contemporary American Indian lit by people like Sherman Alexie. One of his stories — Smoke Signals — was turned into a movie of the same name.

Linda, hi, yes, a difficult book and Dee Brown makes it clear that there were atrocities on both sides. I've not read Sherman Alexie. Another name to note in my reading journal.
